MUAR, Aug 10 (Sin Chew Daily) — The Malaysia Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors' General Association has launched a campaign to promote traditional Hainanese coffee shops on its website, says its president Ho Su Mong.
Images and videos of coffee shops in various states in Malaysia will be uploaded onto the website. This is one way to help coffee shops catch up with the change of time and remain relevant.
Ho said many coffee shop operators were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the Movement Control Order, the association spoke on behalf of more than 20,000 coffee shop operators across the country with the National Security Council to defend their interests.
During the same period of time, the association prepared the video and set up websites to upload video clips of various coffee shops in a bid to introduce these coffee shops to the world.
Ho said apart from the official websites, the association also uploaded three books entitled "Top 100 Traditional Coffee Shops" on its website as reference for foreign tourists.
Liu Yang Geng, head of the association's research and development division, said most coffee shops in the country are family-run businesses, and many of them are now operated by the third or even fourth generation owners.
The traditional way of brewing coffee could be preserved through the video clips.
Many young people simply do not know how to brew coffee the traditional way, and many coffee shops are forced to rely on migrant workers to brew the coffee.
