JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 10 (Sin Chew Daily) — Malaysians working in Singapore are urging the authorities to allow them to go on home quarantine.
Malaysians returning from abroad are to undergo quarantine at designated centers for 14 days and pay for their accommodation and meals.
Currently Singapore and Malaysia have agreed to implement Reciprocal Green Lane (RCL) and Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA) for business travelers and Malaysians working in the city state.
More than 100 Malaysians have sought assistance from Stulang state assemblyman Chen Kah Eng. After spending 90 days in Singapore, they are allowed to return to Malaysia but must undergo 14 days of quarantine at designated centers.
They will also have to pay for their accommodation and meals during the 14-day quarantine too.
"The plight of Malaysian workers was not taken into consideration by the government," said Chen.
"RCL caters for Malaysians and Singaporeans on business travels and official trips for a maximum of 14 days, while PCA allows Malaysians working in Singapore to return home for a short break after working for 90 days in Singapore. But Malaysians who are granted permission to return still have to undergo 14 days of quarantine at designated centers," he said.
Many Malaysians working in Singapore are in a dilemma having to undergo quarantine at designated centers.
Chen called for the government to fine tune the policy, including relaxing quarantine regulations for Malaysians who have worked for more than 90 days in Singapore by allowing them to undergo quarantine at home if the results of their swap tests are negative.
