KOTA KINABALU (Sin Chew Daily) — Born without legs, para athlete Francis Xavier Kinjin has not hiked Mount Kinabalu before. 

But he is seeking Yahon Charles Jayasuriya who has hiked Mount Kinabalu in Iron Man outfit to deliver the sanitizer dispenser stand made by him to a rest house in Laban Rata, a stopover for hikers near the peak of Mount Kinabalu.

Francis, 35, earns his living using polyvinyl chloride pipes or known as PVC pipes to make the sanitizer dispenser stand.

During the Movement Control Order period, he used PVC pipes to make sanitizer dispenser stand. Schools, hospitals and shops support him by ordering the stands from him.

In order to pay back to society, Francis donates 10% of the profit made from selling the sanitizer stand to charity where money is used to buy goods and food for poor senior citizens and the disabled. 

In an interview with Sin Chew Daily, Francis said when he came to know about Yahon raising fund for mountain guides by hiking in Iron Man outfit, he requested Yohan to deliver the sanitizer dispenser stand for him to the rest house in Laban Rata for hikers and staff of the rest house.

Yohan arrived at the rest house located 3,272m above sea level on Saturday afternoon and handed over the stand to the staff of the rest house.

"Hiking up to Mount Kinabalu has always been my dream. Until now I have yet to start the journey. But I am very grateful that the Iron Man has helped to deliver the sanitizer dispenser stand made by me to Mount Kinabalu," said Francis. 

Last month, Francis' home in Kampung Dabak, Penampang was under water when the floods hit west coast of Sabah. 

The PVC pipes that he bought and the tools he used to make the stands were swiped away by flood waters. 

He was about to refund the deposits that clients paid him for the sanitzser dispensers stands as he was unable to deliver them on time but many were kind enough to allow him deliver the stands at a later date. 

Francis stopped work for about a week to clean the house with his mother and he only started to make the dispenser stand few days ago. 

Despite his physical disability, Francis became a para-athlete powerlifter, representing Sabah in the Sukma Games Paralympiad in Perak last year where he finished fourth out of 19 participants.

Francis also sells furniture and crafts made of PVC pipes created by him. 

He first gained prominence when his design for a foot-operated pump dispenser, also made from PVC pipes, went viral on social media recently. The device was created to allow people to use the dispensers without having to use their hands.
