PKR: We’ve never accepted ‘Mahathir-Anwar’ combo

PETALING JAYA, June 18 (Sin Chew Daily) – PKR Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is expected to issue a statement tonight to announce the "negotiation process' on the prime ministerial candidate for PH++ and would include the clarification that PKR and Pakatan Harapan have never agreed to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as prime minister and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as his deputy.

A PKR leader told Sin Chew Daily the secretary-general's statement would include the process of negotiations on the PM candidate to prove that the party and even the whole PH have never agreed to the "Mahathir-Anwar" combo.

"Anwar had a meeting with several key party members last night and said the secretary-general will issue a statement today."

Meanwhile, PKR's central committee and all of the party's elected representatives will have a meeting to discuss the "Mahathir-Anwar" combo tomorrow, and a decision can be expected after that.

During a recent interview with MalaysiaKini, DAP organizing secretary Anthony Loke said PH had initially proposed that Anwar become prime minister and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as deputy prime minister. However, as this was not acceptable, PH later came up with the "Mahathir-Anwar" combo.

Loke said PH++ talked about the possibility of these two proposals on their June 9 meeting but Parti Warisan Sabah rejected the "Anwar-Mukhriz" proposal.

In view of this, the three parties of PH are considering to return to the "Mahathir-Anwar" combo.
