14,500 Malaysians at tabligh event, not 5,000

PUTRAJAYA, Mar 13 (Sin Chew Daily) — The health ministry revealed today that as many as 14,500 Malaysians took part in the massive tabligh event at Masjid Seri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur from February 27 to March 1.

Records show that as many as 16,000 people were at the event, including 14,500 Malaysians and 1,500 international participants.

Earlier estimates put the total number of participants at around 10,000, including 5,000 Malaysians.

In a diagram posted by health director-general Datuk Noor Hisham Abdullah on Facebook early this morning, six Malaysians attending the tabligh event have been confirmed with COVID-19 infection, including three from Negeri Sembilan, and one each from Johor, Pahang and Sabah.

Case 136 from Negeri Sembilan is a 26-year-old male returning to Malaysia from South Korea to attend the tabligh event. He developed a fever on March 3 but left the country on the following day.

As for international participants, six from Brunei have been confirmed with COVID-19 so far, and three of them have infected five others.
