Anwar the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be sworn in at 5.00 p.m. this evening as the 10th prime minister of Malaysia, announced Istana Negara.

75-year-old Anwar was elected as the member of parliament for Tambun in the 15th general election.

He was appointed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as deputy prime minister in 1993 during Barisan Nasional’s time.

He was jailed from 1999 to 2004 and again from 2014 to 2018 on sodomy charges.

He received the royal pardon after Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election in 2018.
