6 cases of peat fires reported in 3 states

PUTRAJAYA, June 27 (Bernama) -- The Fire and Rescue Department has received six reports on peat forest fires and farms until 11pm, yesterday, involving fourcases in Selangor and one each in Johor and Terengganu.

According to a statement from the department today, 20.8 hectares were involved in the fire and 86 firefighters were deployed to the sites.

The statement also said that 52 hectares of a forest in Batu 13, Ayer Hitam, Muar, Johor that was affected by fire since June 18, has been doused fully.□□□□"Generally, open fires throughout the country are still under control and a total of 108 small open fire cases were extinguished in a short time," the statement said.

The department also expressed its gratitude to the public for their awareness in reporting incidents of fire to the department immediately..

"This attitude must continue because based on the information from the Meteorological Department, the country will experience the El Nino phenomenon in July and August," the statement said.
