KOTA BHARU, Aug 14 (Sin Chew Daily) -- The United Chinese School Teachers Association (Jiao Zong) insisted that the education ministry must withdraw the teaching of Jawi calligraphy at SRJKs to ensure the nature of Chinese and Tamil primary schools in the country would not be jeopardized.
Jiao Zong chairman Ong Chiow Chuen reiterated during the association's general assembly in Kelantan today that the association did not agree to the inclusion of Jawi calligraphy in the Bahasa Melayu curriculum for Chinese and Tamil primary schools because such a move was not consistent with the practical need for the learning of the national language and would not help enhance the students' command of the language.
