PETALING JAYA, Aug 13 (Sin Chew Daily) -- Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said it was against the law for the United Chinese School Committees' Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) to keep fanning racial emotions.

He also said he would leave it to the police to decide whether to ban the organization.

“It is going against the law. We have freedom of speech, but we are always sensitive about not instigating people to fight with each other.”

The prime minister said Dong Zong was only fighting for its own community whereby Malaysia is a multiracial country.

When asked whether Dong Zong would be banned, he said, “It is for the police to decide...”

Promoting racism

Mahathir reiterated that Don Zong was a race-based organization fighting only for the interest of the local Chinese community, not all Malaysians.

“They have never spoken once for the country. They are only talking about Chinese education.

“They are an organization wholly dedicated to promoting racism,” the prime minister asserted.
