PENANG: Penang Hospital recently performed a multiple tissue procurement procedure—its second of 2026—following the donation of 36-year-old Ta Wan Th’ng, who passed away following a road accident.

Several departments in the hospital— Ophthalmology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Forensic Medicine, and Pathology—expressed their deepest condolences and gratitude to Ta’s family.

Despite their grief, her family honored her wishes, offering a life-changing gift to patients in need.

“This noble decision made during her lifetime has become an invaluable gift of life for others,” Penang Health Department shared in a statement on its Facebook page.

The incident occurred at 2:15 PM on Thursday when Ta experienced sudden physical discomfort while driving alone. Her vehicle lost control, crashed into a hawker center railing along Macalister Road, and struck two parked motorcycles.

Bystanders performed CPR until an ambulance arrived to rush her to Penang Hospital, where she later fell into a coma and passed away.

Coinciding with World Organ Donation Day on Aug 13, hospital staff dressed in green to raise awareness for organ donation, while a green light was lit at the hospital in honour of Ta and her family’s selfless sacrifice.

Her husband, Loh Yean Siang, 40, signed the consent form to proceed with the retrieval. He noted that Ta had registered as an organ donor years ago and that he fully supported her decision.

Her legacy serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of organ donation.
