Gift of love: 36-year-old accident victim donates organs; husband inspired to sign up as donor
Ta Wan Th’ng, 36, has signed up to pledge her organs for years

PENANG: Ta Wan Th’ng, 36, who fell into a coma following a car accident, fulfilled her wish to give back to society by donating her organs following her tragic passing.

Ta was driving alone when she experienced sudden physical discomfort, causing her vehicle to lose control at 2.15pm on Thursday. Her car crashed into the railing of a hawker centre along Macalister Road before striking two parked motorcycles, leaving her unconscious.

Bystanders took turns performing CPR on her until an ambulance arrived and rushed her to Penang Hospital. She slipped into a coma and later passed away.

Her husband, Loh Yean Siang, 40, signed the consent form allowing doctors to retrieve her organs and tissue to help save lives.

Loh noted that his wife had registered as an organ donor years ago and that he fully supported her decision.

“I am not registered as an organ donor yet, but I will sign up soon,” Loh said during his wife’s funeral procession on Saturday.

The couple has five sons aged between nine and 14. Ta also served as the vice president of the parent-teacher association (PTA) at SJK (C) Heng Ee, where her children attend school.
