A leader who turned success into responsibility — Tiong Hiew King will be dearly missed by Fuzhou across the globe
President of the Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association (PERPIT) Abdul Alek Soelystio, who is also the President of the World Federation of Fuzhou Associations

SIBU : The greatness of Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King does not lie in how much he has achieved, but how he turns success into responsibility and converts influence into blessings, said Abdul Alek Soelystio, president of the World Federation of Fuzhou Associations.

Soelystio,  also the president of Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association (Perpit), said the number of people Tiong had helped, supported and inspired were far too many.

Speaking at the memorial service held  atXin Fu Yuan Methodist Church,Sibu on Saturday, Soelystio said many people came to know Tiong through business ventures and achievements, but he knew Tiong through his sincerity, kindness, humility and the sense of responsibility.

“We came to know each other through our involvement in the community association, and our friendship grew from there. I was fortunate to witness him transform from an idealistic and bold entrepreneur into a leader who influenced society and benefited the community,” he said.

In his heart, Soelystio said Tiong was never simply an “industrial titan,” but a person who was immensely grounded and deeply genuine.

“He was the kind of elder who would listen attentively when you spoke, and he would always stand by your side at critical moments.”

He pointed out that Tiong was a man of strong responsibility. He was decisive in his work yet always gentle in dealing with others.

His heart carried his family, society, culture, and education.

“He often told me: ‘Our generation was able to come this far because many people helped us; we too must leave something behind for the younger generation.’ These were not just words — it was how he lived his entire life.”

In business, Tiong was brave in taking responsibility and persevered through difficulties; he said, adding that  in the family, he was gentle yet firm, the pillar of his loved ones; in society, he performed good deeds quietly without seeking recognition; and in culture and education, he firmly believed that “our roots must not be severed, and our flame must not be extinguished.”

“I often said he was the busiest person I knew, yet also the person most willing to pause and listen to others. Today, as we gather to remember him, I feel sad — but also boundless gratitude.

“Gratitude for the warmth and light he brought into my life; gratitude for the encouragement he offered during difficult times; and gratitude for teaching me that the most important thing in life is not how much we have, but how much we are willing to give.”

Soelystio told Tiong’s family that Tiong was a blessing in the lives of many.

“ We grieve his passing, but we are deeply grateful for his life. His kindness, his perseverance and his love are etched deeply in our hearts. May we continue forward with gratitude.”

“Tiong, my dear clansman, your journey has come to an end. May you find perfect rest in the Lord. We — the Tiong clan across the world and all Fuzhou people — will miss you.

“We will remember your laughter, your wisdom, your warmth, and we will continue to carry on the love and spirit you left behind.”
