KUALA LUMPUR: Richest Malaysian Tan Sri Robert Kuok celebrates his 102nd birthday today.
According to records, Kuok was born on October 6, 1923, in Johor Bahru.
Kuok, founder of the Kuok Brothers Group, is regarded as one of Asia’s most influential businessmen.
His vast business empire spans multiple sectors—from sugar, flour and cooking oil to hotels, property and IT, and the businesses extend across the world.
His listed companies include Wilmar International in Singapore, PPB Group in Malaysia, and Shangri-La Hotel and Resorts in Hong Kong.
Forbes listed Kuok’s net worth at US$12.1 billion (RM51 billion), ranking him the 195th richest in the world as of 2025, earning him the title of the richest man in Malaysia.
Despite his advanced age, Kuok remains sharp-minded and deeply respected in business circles.
Robert Kuok’s grandson, Kuok Meng Wei, revealed in an interview earlier this year that his grandfather remains energetic and sharp even today, keeping abreast of the latest business trends—including the booming data center industry.
Robert Kuok is now supporting Meng Wei in leading a data center development company, K2 Strategic, which is rapidly expanding and aims to double data center capacity to 240 megawatts (MW) in Malaysia.
As Robert Kuok enters his 103rd year, his involvement in the data center initiative not only reflects his ability to adapt to changing times but also signals that the country’s richest man will continue to play an influential role in the global business landscape.
