JOHOR BAHRU: Kummute launches cross-border ride-hailing service from Johor Bahru to Singapore for now, a collaboration between private companies in Malaysia and Singapore.
A new digital cross-border taxi booking service, it allows licensed cross-border taxi operators to pick up passengers from Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal in Johor Bharu to Ban San Street in Singapore, said Kenny Hew, head of Growth@Kummute.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore is also in discussion with Kummute for Singapore—Johor Bahru route, he said.
The service provider aims to gradually expand nationwide and eventually introduce door-to-door cross-border transportation services, he said.
To ensure compliance, all drivers on the platform must hold valid permits authorizing them to legally operate cross-border taxi services.
The official launch of the service was held at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Research and Development Centre Auditorium in Johor Bahru on Tuesday.
A training session was also conducted to guide taxi drivers on registration and address their questions.
“Our company hopes to expand coverage nationwide by year-end and roll out door-to-door services,” Hew said.
