TAWAU: A 41-year-old female jogger fulfilled her wish of helping others by donating her corneas after she met with an accident while jogging and later diagnosed as brain dead.
Darna Tajudin, a cheerful, active and generous mother of five, was jogging with friends as usual at Mile 9, Jalan Apas on August 9 evening when she was hit by a vehicle driven by a drunk driver.
She was rushed to the intensive care unit at Tawau Hospital and diagnosed as brain dead eight days later on August 17.
Despite cries of her five children—all still young, aged 9 to 18—echoed around the hospital bed, the family made a bold decision to honor Darna’s pledge to donate corneas as she once said let her organs help others. She had previously donated blood many times.
Darna’s donation of gift of sight would help eye patients see the world again, as she once said she wanted to leave something for others even after she was gone.
