PETALING JAYA: About 30 members of parliament from the Democratic Action Party made a historic visit to Umno headquarters to attend a briefing chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi this week.

This marks the first visit by Rocket MPs to Menara Dato’ Onn to attend a briefing on technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

Zahid, who is the National TVET Council Chairman, invited DAP to attend the briefing, a sign of political goodwill to further strengthen cooperation within the Unity Government.

In a Facebook post, Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin described the occasion as a first for both parties, marking a significant milestone in post-GE15 political collaboration.

“It marked the first time such a large group of DAP MPs have visited Umno’s headquarters, a sign of maturity and cooperation within the Unity Government,” he said.

Among the DAP heavyweight visitors are: secretary-general Anthony Loke, advisor Lim Guan Eng, vice chairman Chong Chieng Jen, head of women’s wing Teo Nie Ching, treasurer Ngeh Koo Ham, and Sabah DAP deputy chief Datuk Chan Foong Hin.

The meeting also saw the attendance of Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Although the Madani government is not without flaws, its leaders are earnestly carrying out their duties, transcending ideological and party boundaries to work together for the nation’s progress, said Chan.

“Nation-building requires unity, not uniformity—and that is the spirit we uphold,” he said.

The scene was a striking blend of red and blue—symbolizing the two parties—and marked a momentous occasion since the two parties, once at logger heads, work together on unprecedented political collaboration after the 2022 general elections

In June last year, Loke made headlines as the first DAP leader to have attended the Umno general assembly alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Several months later, Zahid, Asyraf and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir attended the opening ceremony of DAP’s national congress.
