PETALING JAYA: Two SPM top-scorers of 9A+ are on cloud nine for receiving offers to take up matriculation programmes despite being rejected twice.

Wang Yu Ze and Hiew Kai Xuan from SMK St David, Melaka received offers to study at a college in Pahang.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong posted the good news on his Facebook page on July 12.

“Congratulations! I am happy for both of them,’’ he wrote.

Dr Wee received letters from the parents seeking help after their applications to matriculation programmes were rejected.

Dr Wee posted their case in Facebook on July 4, calling for students who scored 9A+ to be treated fairly and they deserve a place in matriculation programmes.

Both held leadership roles in school, actively contributed to co-curricular activities, represented their states at various levels, won a Gold Award at ITEX, and even emerged as second runner-up in the National Science and Mathematics Quiz, he added.

Dr Wee stated that students like them represented around 86% of applicants who took only nine subjects for their SPM exams.
