Carcasses of over 100 dead pigs infected with African Swine Fever cleared by authorities in Negeri Sembilan
Port Dickson Municipal Councillor Kenny Chiew Chi Kin points to the spot where dead pigs were believed to have been transported from a nearby state to dump there.

Chuah: Over 100 dead pigs illegally dumped in Bukit Pelanduk River, a former pig farming area, had been cleared by authorities.

Port Dickson Municipal Councillor Kenny Chiew Chi Kin said the former pig farming area recorded a total of five cases of illegal dumping of dead pigs tested positive for African Swine Fever (ASF).

The dead pigs were believed to be transported from a neighbouring state to the area.

Health officers visited the area on 5 March due to the stench led to the discovery of the illegal dumping.

The Negeri Sembilan Department of Irrigation and Drainage, together with the Negeri Sembilan Public Works Department, Negeri Sembilan Health Department and Negeri Sembilan Veterinary Services Department launched a joint operation to bury the dead pigs, disinfect the area and clear the river.

Local residents were also urged to alert authorities if they detect illegal dumping of dead pigs in the area to safeguard public health, said Chiew, who is also a special assistant to Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

In February, it was reported that a total of 1,868 pigs from two farms in Selangor have been disposed of to control and prevent the spread of ASF.

The 1,868 pigs were part of the 76,000 pigs confirmed to be infected with ASF in sampling tests carried out on pigs at 114 licensed farms in Sepang and Kuala Langat, Selangor.
