MIRI: Chinese delicacy wanton finds its way to the Ramadan bazaar at Kampung Luak here, thanks to Dayang Hazizah’s innovation and creativity.

As the competition is stiff, she decides to sell the halal version of fried wanton instead of traditional Muslim food.

Dayang has been selling fried wanton at Kampung Luak for about a year, but this is her first time selling at a Ramadan bazaar.

“I have patrons of all races buying the fried wanton – Muslims, Chinese and Ibans. The response is good,” she said.

Dayang replaces minced pork with chicken for the fillings, and Thai sauce specially made by her.

Working at a Muslim restaurant for 18 years, Dayang has picked up some culinary skills and knowledge where she modifies the ingredients to make the halal wanton.

Traditionally, wanton made of minced pork wrapped with thin sheets of dough made of egg, water and flour is found in clear soup with noodles.

However, a fried version of wanton is also popular among gluttons.
