KUALA LUMPUR: After Musang King durians have become a hit in China, durian kampung is next!
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said durian kampung without brand names are the next to be exported to China.
Durian importers from China are already studying the possibility of importing this kind of durians to the country.
The minister wrote this on his Facebook:
“We hope that the demand for durians grown in villages would be high too. All durian farmers stand to gain,” he said.
Mohamad was in Shenzhen to visit a durian packaging and distribution warehouse after the first batch of Musang King durians was flown to Zhengzhou, China, on a cargo flight last Saturday.
Musang King durians reached Shenzhen two days later, but they were sold out in a few hours.
Mohamad Sabu was excited that despite selling at RM350 for a Musang King durian in Shenzhen, the King of Fruits was sold out instantly due to the overwhelming demand.
