KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign graduates of Taiwan universities are allowed to work for two years beginning this year.

James Buu, the Deputy Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, said the Taiwanese government is gradually relaxing restrictions for foreigners graduating from universities in Taiwan to work for up to two years.

He said during the scholarship presentation ceremony for Malaysian students applying to study in Taiwan last Friday that foreign graduates were previously allowed to work for only one year in Taiwan.

A total of 100 students applied for the scholarships but only 37 were successful, including nine for doctorate programmes, 18 Master’s programmes and 10 Bachelor degree programmes.

Another 58 students have been granted scholarships to study Chinese in Taiwan and four to pursue Master’s degree programmes under the Taiwan-based International Cooperation and Development Fund.

Nur Nazurah Kassim, a scholarship recipient to study Chinese in 2022, said she had made a lot of friends from European countries, Turkey as well as Japan while studying in Taiwan.

Nur Nazurah, who has a Chinese name Ke Xin Yi, said she had the opportunity to share Malaysian culture with her friends in Taiwan.

“Whenever I share with my friends in Taiwan, I get to compare Malaysia with other countries.

“Malaysia is a great country, in fact. I am proud of the country whenever I share the culture and food of Malaysia overseas,’’ she said.
