PETALING JAYA: Greens are cheaper nowadays due to nice weather, which leads to a good harvest.

Prices of local greens have dropped between 30 and 50 per cent recently.

The greens are cheaper also because of imported vegetables from China and Thailand driving the prices even lower.

A check with traders selling greens at a wet market at PJ Section 17 revealed that prices of green are down due to good harvest.

Vegetable sellers said prices of imported greens are more expensive than local ones and consumers have their preferences.

Some are saying that people are enjoying durians now, and this has affected the sales of greens.

A trader said greens are sold cheap as the market is extremely quiet.

The price of spinach was between RM7 or RM8 a kilogramme more than a month ago, but it is now RM4, a drop of 50 per cent.

Sweet potato leaves used to be RM7.50 a kilogramme but is now RM4.

“Imported greens are still more expensive than local vegetables. Some consumers prefer greens from China,’’ said a trader.

Prices of local greens – long beans, green spinach, baby choy sum and Chinese cabbage have plunged by up to 50 per cent, said another trader.
