RAUB: A 25-year-old man paid a hefty price of RM10,000 for stealing three durians after he was caught red-handed by the orchard owner.
The owner hang one of the durians stolen by him on his neck before taking a video as evidence.
The young man’s father came forward to negotiate with the orchard owner, who is leasing the land to plant durian.
The owner, who lives in Sungai Chetang New Village, had wanted to send the thief from Benta to the police.
Advised by the police in Tranum district, the case was settled with a RM10,000 compensation.
Raub police chief Supt Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman confirmed the case, and said the police did not pursue the matter further as both sides had reached a settlement.
