JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Bahru records the highest number of dengue cases in the state of Johor with 2,253 cases.

As of last Thursday, the number of dengue cases in Johor Bahru made up 80% of all the 2,838 cases registered in the state.

Johor Bahru Mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman disclosed the number of dengue cases during the monthly meeting of Johor Bahru City Council on Thursday.

Akasia Flats records the highest number of cases in the city, and has since been identified as a dengue hot spot.

The Johor Bahru district health office has started a series of activities to curb the spread of dengue by working with SWM Environment Sdn. Bhd. and SWCorp Malaysia in a gotong-royong initiative.

City councilors are encouraged to organize campaigns to wipe out Aedes mosquitoes to curb dengue cases.

Enforcement has been beefed up at dengue hot spots, according to Mohd Noorazam.

A total of 225 summonses amounting to RM133,500 in fines were issued under Section 82 of the Local Government Act last year.

Another 33 summonses amounting to RM22,500 in fines were issued this January.
