JOHOR BAHRU: A recent raid conducted by Johor Immigration Department reveals that foreign beggars can earn up to RM300 a day, or RM10,000 a month!

The beggars are from Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia.

Johor immigration director Baharuddin Tahir said six men and a women aged between 34 and 63 were arrested during a raid at Gelang Patah night market on Tuesday.

The raid was carried out jointly by Johor Bahru Social Welfare Department and Johor Islamic Religious Department after receiving complaints from members of the public.

“They are using the excuse of supporting religious schools to seek public donations.

“Some of them earn up to RM10,000 a month,” he said in a statement.
