MELAKA: A 66-year-old tourist from China who suffered a fall while cycling along Jalan Panglima Awang in Melaka on 9 December, has passed away at Melaka Hospital.

Liu Jianshe, from Shandong, China, died of lung infection at 9.15 p.m. Sunday, said Kota Laksamana state assemblyman Low Chee Leong who had visited him earlier.

Liu was said to have suffered a stroke after the fall.

He arrived in Melaka on 7 December and lost touch with his family members two days later.

His family turned to popular Chinese social media platform Little Red Book to trace his whereabouts.

Liu’s phone was ringing but calls were unanswered, and he had stopped posting pictures of the places he visited.

Sin Chew Daily managed to contact Liu’s grandson on social media and a netizen posted on Facebook that a Chinese national from Shandong met an accident near a Chinese temple on Jalan Panglima Awang.

Liu was later traced to be treated at Melaka Hospital and was unconscious.

Sin Chew Daily followed up with news reports on Liu’s condition at Melaka Hospital when assemblyman Low paid him a visit at the hospital.

Liu regained consciousness although his left side was paralysed, and he was unable to speak clearly.

His wife Li Yun Hua, 66, in Shandong, and son in New Zealand were making travel arrangements to Melaka after discovering that he suffered a stroke.

They had planned to bring him back to China once his condition was stable.

Accompanied by a friend, Liu’s wife flew in from Shandong to Kuala Lumpur via Guangzhou, and rushed to the hospital as soon as they arrived in Melaka last Thursday.

She thanked Low and Malaysians for giving Liu a helping hand.

Their son Liu Bo arrived in Malaysia from New Zealand early Monday.
