KUALA LUMPUR: Housewives, retirees and those without income are clueless that they are not eligible for RM100 eMadani credit.
Deputy Finance Minister Steven Sim said it may be due to the fact they have never filed income tax such that the government is unable to verify whether they are eligible for the RM100 credit.
Sim told Sin Chew Daily applications by those who do not file income tax would be rejected.
“This is not because they earn more than RM100,000 a year, but they have never filed income tax and the government is unable to verify their eligibility,” he said.
Sim did not elaborate further but said the ministry would announce updated information soon.
It is learned that those rejected may stand a chance to appeal.
Those who have never applied for government aid or update their latest income with the Inland Revenue Board may also be rejected, he said.
Another possible reason for the rejection is that an individual’s details do not match the data kept by the government, or that he or she may have applied in two different channels.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said earlier that some 10 million Malaysians were eligible for the RM100 eMadani credit beginning 4 December.
Malaysians above the age of 21 who earn less than RM100,000 a year as of 15 July this year, and have never applied for government aid are eligible for RM100 eMadani.
Applicants can apply through MAE, Setel, Shopee Pay or Touch ‘n Go eWallet from now until 20 Feb 2024.
However, many netizens complained that despite meeting the eligibility, their applications were rejected, including housewives and retirees.
