KUALA LUMPUR: It is learned that four to five Members of Parliament from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia will defect, meaning a total of nine to ten MPs from the party will eventually pledge their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
From the information made available to Sin Chew Daily, these MPs come from Kedah, Perak and Terengganu.
Following the move by Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal to declare his support for Anwar earlier today, so far five Bersatu lawmakers have pledged their support for the Unity Government.
According to a political leader who prefers to remain anonymous, there is now a force trying to persuade Bersatu MPs to support the Unity Government, with more expected to switch sides soon.
The leader said they would cross over once the timing is right, mainly for their own defence against possible lawsuits.
He believed there would be nine or ten in the end. Already five have made the announcements.
Bersatu won a total of 31 parliamentary seats in last year’s general election.
