Selangor ranks top in number of dengue cases

PETALING JAYA: Latest figures released by the Health Ministry indicates that Selangor ranks top in the number of dengue cases in the country.

The state has recorded a total of 27,275 cases since January 1 this year.

Some 132 cases were reported on June 19.

The Petaling district had 489 cases, the highest number of cases, and the mukims of Petaling, Damansara and Sungai Buloh recorded 172 cases, 146 cases and 145 cases respectively.

The Hulu Langat district ranked second with 367 cases, followed by Gombak 198 cases, Klang 167 cases, Hulu Selangor 62 cases, Sepang 56 cases, Kuala Selangor 22 cases, Kuala Langat 19 cases and Sabak Bernam one case.

The Selangor Health Department suggested that the public carry out preventive measures in various ways including checking the breeding ground of Aedes mosquitoes, and removing containers that will store water or covering them with lids or placed with pesticides.

Besides, members of the public are also advised to conduct regular checks on places which will store water and carry out mass cleaning in public areas.

The department also reminded the public to seek medical treatment if if they have symptoms of dengue such as fever, headache, nausea or diarrhea.
