IPOH: Nam Heong Coffee Shop, a popular coffee shop in Ipoh old town at Jalan Bandar Timah, has recently refurbished its old toilets, turning them literally into golden toilets!
The golden toilets meet the “BMW standard” whereby Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming wants public toilets to be clean, attractive and fragrant (Bersih, Menawan, Wangi).
Patrons of Nam Heong Coffee Shop are pleasantly surprised by the refurbished toilets, where a sitting toilet and a squat toilet with their bidets and sinks are all shining and glittering in gold.
Many have joked that they want to take pictures inside the toilets, just like how they take pictures at tourist spots.
The wall tiles inside the toilets have also been changed to white, while the flood tiles are black, making the golden toilets even more outstanding.
Mu Kar King, the person in charge at the coffee shop, said the refurbished toilets are using stainless steel coated with gold paint.
He said the idea had come from coffee shop owner Goh Ching Mun who wanted to refurbish the old toilets in response to Nga’s call.
Nga posted the pictures of the golden toilets on his Instagram to thank Goh for converting the toilets to meet the “BMW standard.”
