You won’t be out of job because of ChatGPT, says Pua

Human behaviors and habits will be changed by ChatGPT, but one will not be out of job because of ChatGPT, unless he does not keep up with learning, says Datuk Pua Khein-Seng, chief executive of Phison Electronics Corporation and inventor of USB drive.

Citing an example, the Malaysian based in Taiwan said factories were hiring people to work in the 80s but machines were used later to replace workers.

To resolve the problem of losing jobs in factories, workers had to learn how to operate machines, he said.

“A worker may be able to produce ten pieces of clothes a day, but a machine can produce 2,000! The same goes for ChatGPT.”

Pua shared his views on ChatGPT while hosting a delegation led by the Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities Malaysia at his office on Wednesday.

Pua (R4) welcomes the Federation of Alumni Associations of Taiwan Universities Malaysia delegation at his office.

He said ChatGPT could perform many tasks, and could write 90% of a program done by an engineer.

Are engineers losing their jobs to ChatGPT as they are no longer needed to write basic programs?

“People will have learn how to use the machine. An engineer may take up to one year to write a program ChatGPT can complete in a day,” he said.

Pua said ChatGPT would only push men to run faster, use more electricity, calculation and storage.

Citing another example, he said a song composer might need to have a cigarette and spend long hours at night to write a song. ChatGPT can do that in a couple of minutes.

“You may listen to the song once and not repeat it.

“ChatGPT changes human habits. If you get it, you will be making a fortune or else continue to work for others,” he said.
