KUALA LUMPUR: A woman, who is unhappy with the reply that the job is only meant for Malays when she inquired about the job vacancy at one of Tealive’s outlets, has released a video on TikTok.
The woman, identified as neeeesh12, said she was informed by one of the staff that the vacancy was only for Malays.
She was shocked and contacted the customer service at Tealive, a popular bubble tea chain.
When told by the customer service officer that the company did not have such policy and that the vacancy was open to applicants of all ethnic groups, the woman returned to the outlet to question why her job application was rejected.
She received no explanation but was given a copy of the job application form to fill instead.
The woman refused to fill in the job application form on the grounds she did not want to work with a racist company. She was instead asking for explanation because Tealive did not have such policy.
When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, Tealive founder Byran Loo said the company welcomes all Malaysians to join the organization with no preference for any race, religion or gender.
All talents in the company are offered equal opportunities in career development, said Loo, adding that this is the company’s policy.
The woman, in a follow-up video, said Tealive had since contacted her.
The customer service team and the branch manager of the outlet apologized to her.
“The branch manager informed me that she was unaware of the incident and apologize to me many times.
“She said disciplinary action had been taken against the staff as the outlet did not condone such behavior,” said the woman.
Netizens praise the woman for her bravery in disclosing the incident and condemn such thoughtless remarks.
