PETALING JAYA: A family has fulfilled the wish of the youngest son to donate his organs after he was declared brain dead.
31-year-old Wen Li, a crane operator, was hit by a fallen tree while riding a motorcycle home in the rain from Kuala Lumpur to Selayang at 6 pm on March 22.
He was rushed to Selayang Hospital and was declared brain dead by doctors two days later.
When asked by the doctors, the elder brother remembered him expressing his wish of donating his organs.
The family signed the consent form to donate a pair of kidneys and a pair of corneas so that four other people could receive his gifts of life.
The transplant operations held on March 24, and Wen Li’s funeral was held on March 29.
Doctors informed the family that the transplant operations were successful while the rate of people pledging organs for donation remained low in Malaysia.
“We think that organ donation is a good deed and we hope more people will sign up as organ donors,” said the brother.
“My brother wanted to pledge his organs but did not manage to sign up.
“He asked our opinion then. We told him it was a good idea. My parents were open-minded,” said the elder brother who revealed that Wen Li had two dreams – to buy a house and get married.
“He bought a house but yet to find a girlfriend,” lamented the elder brother.
