KUANTAN: Sang Riang Senior Citizen’s Home in Triang has become a model old folks’ home after winning the “Cultural Tourism Award” from the Tourism Ministry.
Recommended by Pahang state exco Leong Yu Man, Sang Riang Senior Citizen’s Home receives the award from Tourism Ministry deputy director-general Datuk Musa Yusof, for providing a shelter for senior citizens of multiethnic and multireligious groups to live in harmony under the same roof.
A native of Triang, Leong said she is proud of Sang Riang Senior Citizen’s Home.
She witnessed the home, starting from a simple house to providing shelter and meals for a total of 418 destitute senior citizens.
“The home’s management is unique. It accommodates senior citizens of various ethnic and religious groups who live here in harmony,” she said.
Founder of the home, Yap Yoke Moey expressed her gratitude to the Tourism Ministry for the recognition.
“I am grateful to have received tremendous support from various government agencies over the years. We are growing bigger and bigger in housing the poor senior citizens,” she said.
The local health clinic and Temerloh Hospital regularly send their medical staff to check on the senior citizens.
The home takes in senior citizens from all parts of Malaysia, including those abandoned at hospitals.
