KUALA LUMPUR: In order to help more people learn to speak the Hakka dialect, the Federation of Hakka Association of Malaysia has decided to allow more people to sign up for the online class to learn how to speak Hakka, while a physical class is to be conducted concurrently.
The 10-lesson class, which is free of charge, is jointly organized by the Federation of Hakka Association of Malaysia and the Federation of Kayin Chu Association of Malaysia.
Two instructors from Meixian district in China’s Guangdong province will be teaching the dialect online beginning April 28.
Chow Siew Hon, president of the Federation of Kayin Chu Association, said while there are over 100 million Hakkas across the world, most do not have the opportunity to learn their native dialect.
“The class will offer an opportunity for people to practice the dialect,” he explained.
The one-hour class will be held every Friday from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm from April 28 to July 7.
Ten online lessons will be conducted by Wei Yuwen and Huang Qingsong from China. Participants will learn nursery rhymes, special terms, food, construction terms, idioms and others in Hakka.
Register for the class here or call 010-936-2818 for details.
