A blizzard descends on two houses in northwestern England in a cutting edge science experiment to save energy and help tackle climate change.

The newly-built detached homes, equipped with zero-carbon technology to withstand extreme temperatures, sit in a cavernous laboratory in Salford near Manchester.

The thermometer sinks to minus 16 degrees Celsius at the flick of a button in the facility’s futuristic control center pod, which also creates an artificial snowstorm.
