Mat Sabu: still studying egg subsidy issue

PUTRAJAYA: Agriculture and food security minister Mohamad Sabu said his ministry was still studying the issue of egg subsidy, and he believed the supply of eggs in the country would be stabilized within the next one or two months.

“Some people have proposed to let the egg prices float freely and then the government provides subsidies for the B40 community.

“We are still studying this proposal.”

Mohamad Sabu said the agriculture ministry was in the process of negotiating the restructuring of subsidies with various parties, including the domestic trade and cost of living, economy and finance ministries, as well as poultry farmers, to ensure steady supply of eggs in the market.
