KOTA KINABALU: Following the swearing-in of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th prime minister of Malaysia, the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) – Barisan Nasional state government of Sabah could be on shaky ground.

“A question of whether Sabah Barisan led by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin will continue to lend its support to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor from Perikatan Nasional, is on the lips of Sabah political circles,” The Star reported.

BN, Parti Warisan and Pakatan Harapan have a total of 43 state assembly seats in Sabah.

They can command a simple majority in the 79-seat state assembly if Bung Moktar decides to pull BN’s support from the GRS-led government, it reported.

Bung Moktar has been unhappy with GRS chairman Hajiji after the latter voiced support for PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

He accused Hajiji of failing to keep a pre-election pact to support BN’s choice of prime minister.

GRS won six parliamentary seats in the 15th general election, while Sabah BN won seven.

GRS had supported Muhyiddin as prime minister after the election until several hours before Anwar was sworn in.
