PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Ismail, the former deputy prime minister cum Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor, is contesting the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat to take down the traitor who defected PKR.
A reliable source told Sin Chew Daily Wan Azizah is given the task by PKR to reclaim Bandar Tun Razak.
The source said appointing Wan Azizah to contest in the coming election is a last-minute decision in conformity to PKR’s pledge to field 30% woman candidates in the election.
Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar left PAS to join PKR in 2015. He was one of those defecting with former deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia following the infamous Sheraton Move which led to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
This will be the first time PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his wife Wan Azizah and daughter Nurul Izzah contest in the election together.
Anwar will stand in Tambun while Nurul Izzah will defend her Permatang Pauh seat.
Wan Azizah is leaving the Pandan parliamentary seat to PKR deputy president Mohd Rafizi Ramli, who was also the former Pandan MP.
Rafizi did not contest in the 2018 election after he being convicted of a charge under the Banking and Financial Institutions Act (Bafia) for exposing confidential banking details relating to National Feedlot Corporation on Feb 7, 2018.
He won the appeal against the conviction on November 15, 2019.
