KUANTAN: The price of pork will be RM2 more expensive per kilogram from today, as the ex-farm price of live pigs goes up.

The margin of the latest price increase is the highest so far.

Tan Ban Yong, chairman of Persatuan Penyembelih-Penyembelih Daging Khinzir Kuantan, said the association decided to revise the wholesale and retail prices of pork by RM2 per kilogram following the increase in ex-farm price, after an emergency meeting.

Tan said the wholesale and retail pork prices may vary in the market.

He admitted that businesses and consumers would have a tough time accepting the price increase.

“We hope relevant government departments can meet up with the farmers to find out the reasons for the price hike and prevent further price increase, “ he said.
