Selangor yet to have 30% women at decision-making level

SHAH ALAM: Selangor has not hit the 30% quota for women at decision-making level, says state executive councillor Rodziah Ismail.

Rozdiah, who answered on behalf of Dr Siti Mariah on women and family development department at the Selangor state assembly, said the 30% quota for women at decision-making level had been set for a long time but had yet to be met so far.

“In fact, the Selangor policy drafted for women set a concrete target to speed up women’s participation in politics as well as women’s representative and quota at decision-making level,” said Razdiah.

According to the target, women representation would be increased with non-constitutional seat or additional seats for women only.

“Currently, the Selangor policy for women and its action plan are still under review and in the process of amendment. The researchers in university are still proposing to amend the policy,” she said.

Proposals made by state assemblymen during debate at the state assembly would be considered to upgrade women’s policy in Selangor, she said.

On aids such as breastfeeding room, flexi work hours and daycare facilities at workplace, Rozdiah said Selangor’s policy on daycare and kindergarten facilities were in the process of being fine-tuned to ensure women receive better support.

The state government would be providing more women-friendly facilities for women, she said.
