KUALA TERENGGANU: Buddhist group Fo Guang Shan (FGS), the Malaysian chapter of Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) and Yayasan Sin Chew have started the “East Coast flood relief mission” to deliver donated items to Kuala Terengganu.

Led by Ven Hui Hu and Ven Ru Yan, the FGS container delivered six tons of relief items contributed by sponsors to Kemaman and Hulu Terengganu which have been hit hard by the floods.

A medical doctor, nine members of civil defence ambulance under FGS and a coordinator from Terengganu were part of the delegation to deliver the items to flood victims.

DXN, Swan Malaysia and FamilyMart have contributed blankets, towers, long sleeve shirts, short sleeve shirts, mineral water, instant noodles, bread, medications, school bags, school uniforms and others for the flood victims.

Ven Hui Hu said FGS realized that the Terengganu floods could be as serious as the ones hitting Klang last December.

Then the relief mission to help flood victims in Terengganu was started.

“We help the flood victims regardless of race and religion,” said Ven Hui Hu.

A Malay village head wept when he witnessed the relief team distributing the donated items to the flood victims.

“The village head thanked us for sending them the items. He said the villagers had helped other villages affected by the floods prior to this but had never expected their own village to be flooded. The assistance offered by non-governmental groups helped them ease their burdens,” he said.

“We are all Anak Malaysia. Love does not differentiate race and religion,” he said.
