JB has highest number of new voters in Johor

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 27 (Sin Chew Daily) — Of the 56 state seats in Johor, state constituencies in Johor Bahru district have the highest number of new voters.

The information is acquired from the briefing on the implementation of the 18-year-old to be automatically registered as eligible voters organized by the Election Commission for state assemblymen in Johor.

Puteri Wangsa state constituency in Johor Bahru district has the highest number of new voters while Tenang state constituency under Labis parliamentary constituency in Segamat has the lowest number of new voters.

Prior to the automatic voter registration for those who turn 18, Puteri Wangsa had 66,147 voters but the number has since increased by 46,709 to 112,856 voters.

Two other state constituencies in Johor Bahru district where the voters have increased more than 40,000 are Tiram and Kota Iskandar.

The number of voters in Tiram state constituency has increased from 64,266 to 105,769, an increase of 41,503, while the number of Kota Iskandar voters increases by 44,378 from 72,108 to 116,486.

Voters in Tenang state constituency increase by 4,578 from 18,067 to 22,645.

A total of 31 state constituencies see the increase of fewer than 10,000 new voters. These constituencies are located in Segamat, Muar, Tangkak, Kluang, Batu Pahat, Mersing, Kota Tinggi and Pontian districts.

As of December 31 last year, a total of 756,247 youths in Johor were automatically registered as voters after they turned 18.

The number of eligible voters in the state increased to 2,599,797.
