PETALING JAYA, Dec 31 (Sin Chew Daily) — The 25kg flour will be RM5 more expensive starting tomorrow.

The new price will be in the range of RM52 to RM56, close to a 10% increase from the price range between RM47 and RM51.

Federation of Sundry Goods Merchants Associations of Malaysia president Hong Chee Meng said in a letter that the flour mill had announced the price adjustment.

He told Sin Chew Daily that the 1kg flour is a price-controlled item subsidized by the government. Hence the price of 1kg flour remains the same for the subsidized brands.

As flour is one of the necessity items, the price of flour has remained unchanged for some time until the latest adjustment.

The price revision this time is due to the increase in costs due to the increased price for wheat flour imported from Australia as well as rising shipping costs.

It is believed that the price hike will lead to increase in prices of other food products.
