KUALA LUMPUR: Kuik Cheng Kang, president of the Editors’ Association (Chinese Medium) Malaysia, said the recent monster floods in Klang Valley had once again shown to the world the immense power of generosity and helpfulness among Malaysians regardless of race and religion, who arrived at the disaster scene to offer their helping hands way before the politicians who are only good at fanning racial and religious sentiments.
He said during the Datuk Wong Kee Tat Journalism Awards 2019 presentation Wednesday evening that Malaysian Chinese media should carry more heartwarming stories of Malaysians helping one another irrespective of race to help mould a Malaysian society teeming with positive energy and values.
“We should tackle the destruction with actions. We can use the pens in our hands or the computer keys to write the true stories of this wonderful country.”
Meanwhile, Kuik also said Malaysian journalists must faithfully cling to their journalistic profession in a world still plagued by the coronavirus, delivering the most updated and real-time news on the country’s ongoing war against the virus, adding that the Editors’ Association (Chinese Medium) Malaysia should give these professional reporters and photojournalists due recognition for their devotion and sacrifices.
Even in the midst of the ravaging pandemic, many Malaysian journalists have demonstrated a very high degree of professionalism despite the difficulties encountered, and produced truly high quality news reports and feature stories.
“Despite the many obstacles, the Association insists to continue with the Wong Kee Tat Journalism Awards to reward exemplary press workers doing their jobs dutifully during such trying times.”
