KUALA LUMPUR, Sep 6 (Sin Chew Daily) — After contributing four sets of high flow nasal cannula (HNFC) worth RM100,000 to Sultanah Aminah Hospital end of last month, Hong Kong-based Malaysian actress Vivien Yeo donates another RM30,000 to an orphanage in Johor Bahru.
Yeo decided to pay for the rent and utility bills of the orphanage for three months after learning that all 57 of them including 44 children and staff were diagnosed with COVID-19.
The rent is RM4,000 a month while water and electricity bills sum up to about RM5,000 a month.
All are currently undergoing isolation at the home.
Yeo posted on her Facebook that she would be covering rent and utility bills for the home for three months and some food expenses as well.
She urged others to donate to the home too, as volunteers at the home are also undergoing isolation and will not be able to buy food for the children.
Yeo said she had since transferred RM10,000 to the home and hoped the money would help the home solve some of its financial issues.
The home needs between RM50,000 and RM60,000 per month to operate.
Yeo said she would also be contacting medical equipment suppliers to purchase medical supplies such as oxygen tanks to be delivered to the home.
“I encounter problems communicating with the head of the home, probably because both the head and deputy head are also undergoing quarantine at this moment.
“I will try my best to verify the medical supplies the home needs and deliver them as soon as possible,’’ she wrote.
