PUTRAJAYA, Aug 26 (Sin Chew Daily) – A record 24,599 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the country as of noon today, including eight imported cases.

Selangor reported 6,936 new cases, followed by Sabah (3,487), Johor (2,785), Penang (2,078), Sarawak (2,024), Kedah (1,538), Kelantan (1,312), Perak (1,170), Kuala Lumpur (881), Pahang (690), Terengganu (567), Negeri Sembilan (526) and Melaka (515).

To date there are a cumulative total of 1,640,843 confirmed cases and 1,359,791 recoveries (including 22,657 recovering today) at 82.87% recovery rate.

Record 393 new deaths were reported today, taking the toll to 15,211.

There are currently 265,841 active cases, including 990 at ICUs, 487 requiring ventilators.
