PUTRAJAYA, Aug 23 (Sin Chew Daily) – A total of 17,672 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the country as of noon today, including eight imported cases.

Selangor reported 4.316 new cases, followed by Sabah (2,474), Kedah (1,602), Sarawak (1,538), Penang (1,451), Johor (1,367), Kelantan (1,176), Perak (952), Kuala Lumpur (891), Pahang (506), Negeri Sembilan (478), Terengganu (470) and Melaka (363).

To date there are a cumulative total of 1,572,765 confirmed cases and 1,297,723 recoveries (including 19,053 recovering today) at 82.51% recovery rate.

174 new deaths were reported today, taking the toll to 14,342.

There are currently 260,700 active cases, including 1,040 at ICUs, 502 requiring ventilators.
