PUTRAJAYA, Aug 16 (Sin Chew Daily) – A total of 19,740 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the country as of noon today, including 19 imported cases.

Selangor reported 5,706 new cases, followed by Sabah (1,728), Kedah (1,592), Sarawak (1,566), Johor (1,510), Kuala Lumpur (1,360), Penang (1,251), Kelantan (1,227), Melaka (1,120), Perak (938), Terengganu (688), Pahang (646) and Negeri Sembilan (343).

To date there are a cumulative total of 1,424,639 confirmed cases and 1,162,578 recoveries (including 17,450 recovering today) at 81.61% recovery rate.

274 new deaths were reported today, taking the toll to 12,784.

There are currently 249,277 active cases, including 1,047 at ICUs, 520 requiring ventilators.
