PETALING JAYA, July 8 (Sn Chew Daily) – Even though Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced that his party withdraws its support for prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the Perikatan Nasional government will not collapse immediately and can still operate until September or even October, depending on when the official parliament sitting takes place again.

An Umno supreme council member told Sin Chew Daily neither Ahmad Zahid nor Umno has instructed Umno ministers to quit.

"They can stay until the parliament reconvenes, when the new prime minister will be elected."

The pro-Zahid Umno supreme council member said Umno only wanted to replace Muhyiddin with a new prime minister.

The source said last night's Umno supreme council meeting decided to withdraw its support for Muhyiddin and let the parliament decide who the next prime minister is, while Umno members of parliament can continue to remain in PN until parliament reconvenes.

According to the source, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who was appointed deputy prime minister yesterday, is very unhappy with the decision.

"He questioned the timing of such decision."
